A sumptuous Baroque as ex voto

The church of thanksgiving for the end of the plague was completed only in 1671, according to the project of Ascanio Vitozzi and Carlo di Castellamonte, to whom we owe the huge façade. Inside, rich in decorations and frescoes, a series of images that recall the miracle (vault of Luigi Vacca, paintings by Pietro Domenico Olivero, altarpiece by Bartolomeo Carovaglia). Benedetto Alfieri in the mid-eighteenth century, for the 300th anniversary of the miracle, planned a further enrichment of marble furnishings.

In the drawing by F. Corni a section that highlights the density of decorations in the small space of the church.
