The reconstruction of the 16th century

From the 13th century to the middle of the 16th century the building was not modified. The presence of Andrea Doria, however, brought a change in the church, especially in the interior. The Gothic aspect was lost in favor of Renaissance elements to emphasize the greatness that the family had in those years. Montorsoli took care of the modifications and redesigned the presbytery and the dome. Giovanni Battista Castello, known as Bergamasco, together with Luca Cambiaso, made the modifications and the decoration of the nave.
