The harbour district on the promontory protects the oldest landing place of the city
This part of the waterfront of the port was built on the promontory that protects the cove of the Mandraccio, the first landing place of the city, from the scirocco. From 1000 and for 8 centuries it was the largest working centre of the port where people used to live, food supplies for the city were stored and work on sails, oars and hulls was carried out. Today, given that the Mandraccio is buried and full of tourists, it is difficult to imagine it as the place were the boats that made Genoa famous all around the world during the Crusades were built.
