Main side of the Parish of St. John the Baptist
The church of San Giovanni Battista in the town of Orbassano (Turin, Italy) was rebuilt in 1986, as a result of the partial collapse that took place on 4 June 1895 of the pre-existing sixteenth-century church, which was built on the remains of a religious building of medieval era. This was confirmed by documents dated between 1351 and 1450. The plan is a longitudinal shape divided into three naves. The bays are covered by round arched, ribbed vaults. The apse is semicircular. The choir is separated from the presbytery by a colonnade and slightly raised compared with the plan of the naves. In addition to the main altar there are four minor altars recovered from the existing church, dedicated to the Saint Sacrament, to the Madonna del Carmine, to the Crucifix and to Baptism. Inside, the wonderful frescoes dedicated to the Via Crucis, were made in 1892 by Giovanni Stura. The style of the works is of the Nazarenes' current.
