The hidden cloister

On the left of the church, the entrance to the cloister was built between 1308 and 1310 by Magister Marcus Venetus. The entrance, which communicates with the square, is hidden by the Branca Doria palace. Crossing the passage you will find yourself in a quadrangular environment with brick pointed arches placed on twin columns. A small well lies in the middle of the open space. Several tombstones are placed on the walls, belonging to the Doria family, and mostly recovered from the now demolished church of San Domenico, which used to stand out in what currently is Piazza De Ferrari.
