The integration of the bell tower
After the first phase of works, started in 1888, D'Andrade proceded with the restoration works concentrating on the bell tower. In 1894 the works began with the removal of the plaster and the addition of a third order of four-light windows, believed to exist by the Portuguese architect because of the discovery of traces of four-light windows' bases during the works.
D'Andrade's drawing shows the bell tower before the restoration he conducted. In the first two orders, the mullioned windows are buffered or non-existent; it will be his job to bring them back.
