The baptism of Goffredo Mameli

Genoa after Napoleon was boiling with revolutionary, republican and patriotic ideas. Each neighborhood contributed to the Mazzinian cause and to anti-restoration. Churches recorded the baptisms of newborn babies who will soon become heroes for the national cause. The archive of S. Donato holds the baptismal deed of Goffredo Mameli, the patriot to whom the Italian anthem is owed. The act is dated September 5, 1827. Mameli died in the resistance of the Roman Republic in 1849.
