The architrave that holds the lunette of the portal is a piece of a temple, perhaps reused from nearby ruins, since the church is right on the edge of the Roman city and that also in S. Donato and S. Maria di Castello pieces of the same type of frame from the imperial era were used. The polychrome inlays are a medieval decorative addition.
The portal is typical of Genoese Romanesque churches: splayed with alternating white and black stone. Note the beautiful marble ribbon capital, with high Romanesque mythological figures, aligned with the dentils of the Roman piece.
