A severe but elegant façade

The uniform black stone of the façade (typical of Genoa, coming from the Promontorio della Lanterna) forms the background from which the few graceful two-colored decorations of the portal and the Gothic arcosolium tomb (called "del Barisone") stand out. These are common decorations for the Romanesque and Gothic portals in Liguria, but here were among the first times to be used, with great simplicity and elegance.
