Hidden from view by the alleys and with a very small square in front, the church was located in the lowest point of the city of the year 1000, a few meters from the houses that were resting on the beach of the first port of Genoa: the Mandraccio. Before the expansion of the port area, the walls were in direct contact with water. The expansion of traffic and the need for storage made necessary to build buildings towards the beach, altering the original proximity of the church to the sea.
