Large residences overlooking a representative street became the visiting card of Genoa that, in the sixteenth century, talked with the great economic powers around the world. The Genoese avant-garde led to a design ever seen in Europe, with a double value: realizing representative residences and reclaiming a peripheral area characterized by the presence of the San Francesco cathouse.
Construction of the road started from the area near to Piazza Fontane Marose. It took 40 years, before the road, begun in 1550, was completed
