A long complex: Caricamento, the elevated street and the ancient port
The square was chaotic and very popular for merchant traffic; then the piers multiply in the west and the role of Caricamento is aimed more at the city than at the port. Until the end of the millennium, when the renovation of the old port brought this place back to the center of the relationship between the port and the city with different but equally vital functions.
An entaglement of old and new to always obtain the same effect of the lively center of the big city
