Piazza Cavour is an important node of the relationship between Port and City, determined by customs gates, traditionally opened at this point and, more recently, by the connection with the causeway, the only point in addition to that of Via Madre di Dio, where ordinary traffic intercepts the fast route east-west.
In the photo of 1967 the Sopraelevatae seems to separate the city from the port, but in fact the ramps of entry and exit strengthen the role of Piazza Cavour as an urban crossroads of the port (while the goods have long been addressed to the west).
