from Gianfranco Gritella, Juvarra, l'architettura
A single decree of 1729 implemented the procedure imposed by Vittorio Amedeo II for the rectification of the two roads that converge from Porta Susina and Porta Palazzo and intersect at the Palazzo di Città . At the same time we proceed to the construction of the 18 blocks of the western extension to the new gate designed by Juvarra (the Military Quarters). The main axis of Via del Carmine-Corte d'Appello is chosen in the place of the most important Via Dora Grossa (Via Garibaldi), as a barycentric to the new district. For the rectification of Via Dora Grossa, it will be necessary to wait until 1736.
In the scheme are highlighted: the square city, crossed by the new axes of the district of Porta Palazzo (now via Milano) and via Corte d'Appello, via Dora Grossa (now via Garibaldi) and the area of the new extension to the west.
