Un'altra chiesa trasformata

A large portion of the square was occupied by a huge baroque church with a heavily decorated façade. This was the parish of the neighbourhood, funded on the very ancient remains of a three-naved church, redone in the 12th century and bombarded many times. After the war, the church had no roof and was very degraded, so it was deconsecrated and used as a garage until its restoration. The building is currently used as a lecture hall for the Architecture faculty.

The heavily decorated façade stands out in this postcard from the 1930s. A guide of the time by Casalis sarcastically stated: "the façade was painted like the interiors of a hair salon".
