The war humiliates the city

One of the most popular and lively squares in the city, a place of trade, cuisine, crimes and meetings was seriously damaged by the bombings that devastated the Castello hill, on the firing line of the planes that targeted the Port. The rubbles were left there for many years, leading to the degradation of the entire area, which will only be redeveloped towards the end of the 1900s.

In this photo from 1943, the piles of rubble covering the area and reducing the square to a narrow path where you can only pass in single file.
