Ernest Melano, between 1817 and 1818, designed a porticoed Piazza d'Armi, transversal to the axis of Via Po. For this square there were three design proposals, one of which included a square closed on each side, with a door for adjust the accessibility to the bridge. This characteristic that contrast with the policy of integration between city and territory. On November 14, 1817, the vicar of Turin received an alternative proposal, which provided for an opening of the square on the Po.
