University between the Duke and the City

The university is located between via Verdi, from where the institutions of the Palazzo (the Royal Academy, the Cavallerizza and the Zecca) and via Po, (the aristocratic promenade) look out. In order to move from the modest seat of via Dora Grossa, now via Garibaldi (in front of the Town Hall) in 1713 work began on the new grandiose building which housed the students for centuries, crucial in enhancing the brilliant and vital character of via Po in the following centuries.

The courtyard of the Palace, among the most sumptuous in the city, is the result of subsequent projects, as told in the dedicated POI card (The historical seat of the University)
