The Cesare Gamba's project

The construction of Via XX Settembre was commissioned by Andrea Podestà, the mayor of the time, even if the citizens were worried about the demolitions needed for the new construction. Cesare Gamba was charged of the project in 1890. Some buildings were exproprieted, the Sant'Andrea jails and the church of Sant'Angelo were destroyed. The street was inaugurated on 15 March 1900 but it was not until 1913 that all the buildings were built.
