The square before the fountain
The current name of the square is due to the Duke of Galliera, Raffaele De Ferrari, who financed the conclusion of the works on the port, expanding and improving its functions. The square has an irregular shape because it is the result of different urban interventions, as shown by the mixture of various architectural styles.
