The Porta and the Piazza della Vittoria

Juvarra focuses on the nord access of the city. The old Porta Palatina was on the homonymous street and do not seemed adequate anymore, while the acces door was still important to the city. Juvarra designs the new Porta Vittoria, a triumphal arch continuing the buildings ledge, in the entrance of the route to Milan. In order to create the new square, an arcaded rectangular space, the octagonal oratory of San Michele and all the medieval constructions are demolished. The Piazza Vittoria becomes the new parade ground.

The Juvarra design of the Porta Vittoria shows the continuity of the architectural elements (arcades, porches, ledges, ...)
