Citizens' Power

Heraldic animals are represented on the façades of the open buildings on the lozenge-shaped square. The 11th block with the heads of dogs belongs to the Dominican convent; the 13th is of the Municipality of Turin symbolized in the bull. The property of the number of 18 was at the time of Faussone of Germagnano in whose coat of arms there was the rampant lion. In Juvarra's intention the citizens powers face each other: civic, religious and nobility or court. On the fourth side stands the Basilica Mauriziana, headquarters of the Savoia order. It is that of the royal house to which the other powers must bow.
