An harbour outside the Door
All the trades lead to the construction of big ships and the oldest docks are not deep enough. Since the 16th century, the larger vassels are crowded on the old Molo, outside the Porta Cibaria (Siberia).
The drawing (excavations to deepen the dock) reproduces the situation of the harbour until 1850: the larger vassels are aligned near the old Molo, while only boats and small vassels can move in the harbour.
