A fortification in the middle of the harbour
The Molo is fortified since the century XV but, in the second half of the century XVI, when the walls extended also along the Ripa Maris , the military post of the dock became a stronghold monitoring not only the sea but also the port itself.
A detail of the fresco with the view of Genoa at the end of the 16th century : it is still visible in the loggia of the Palazzo Doria-Spinola (the current Prefecture).
