An open space obtained with difficulty

As the seventeenth-century maps show, a large part of Campo Pisano has been occupied by buildings for a long time and only in the twentieth century it became an open space, which still retains the mark of the privatized part then returned.

In the image, from the mid-1900s (taken from Carignano bridge), you can still clearly see the division of the square into two, with the brick on the left and the rubble of the demolished houses on the right.
