The rissêu in memory of the battling galleys

In the restoration of Campo Pisano, the arrangement of the public space plays an important role, given that the buildings in front of it have been little altered by refurbishing the façades. The various historically accumulated differences in height were eliminated and the added part of the square was paved with a rissêu (a stoned mosaic) that reproduces with great simplicity a black galley on a white field, in memory of the sailors defeated here and held captive in the thirteenth century.

A beautiful image highlighting the part of the square with the new rissêu. Photo by Andrea Carpi's "Liguria Nascosta" (Hidden Ligury)
