Numbers have been publicly drawn from the balcony of the town hall for centuries, with a solemn ceremony preceded by a religious function and the invocation of the Holy Spirit on the 7-year-old boy who performs the task. Each draw is accompanied by trumpet blasts and supported by a high-ranking magistrate and city officials. Public calls or the lottery for the allocation of public houses were also read from the loggia.
