from Ada Peyrot, Vittorio Viale, Immagini di Torino nei secoli, Torino 1973
The municipal administration of the city has a troubled history, also made up of conflicts with the Savoy and Achaia, rulers of the Middle Ages, when the Municipalities claimed wide liberties. In the Middle Ages, power was represented by the bishop and only in the first decades of the twelfth century the Municipality was put alongside it, the latter anyway remained without seat until 1375. The location on Piazza delle Erbe dates back to 1472 when the "domus comunis Taurini" was purchased. We witnessed a lack of traces since the palace was completely renovated in the seventeenth century.
In the most ancient plan of Turin created in 1572 by Giovanni Carracha, the "domus comunis Taurini" (designed as a common house) purchased in the 15th century is highlighted with a red circle and the civic tower on the left.
