From Palace to "Palazzaccio"

The Palace for municipal technical offices took the place of a Baroque building by Castellamonte, demolished in the years prior to World War II. This was done without any particular reasons other than the desire to mark the symbolic places of the city with works of regime (as happens in those years for the Littoria tower overlooking Piazza Castello). Although it was built over 20 years after the demolition of the Baroque building, the Palace has always been misplaced: its cumbersome presence, "out of tune" with the context in which it was forcibly lowered, ending up being named "Palazzaccio".
