The military quarters of Juvarra, a new entrance into the city

The new north extension of the city exploits the territories acquired for the construction of the fortifications of the siege of 1705. The area adjacent to the military structures must be left free, so the new Susina gate was planned to be constructed on the axis of via delle Patte (current via del Carmine), rather than at the head of the most important via Dora Grossa (former Roman Decumanus and presently via Garibaldi). Vittorio Amedeo II entrusts the project for the new entrance to Filippo Juvarra, who designs two blocks, destined for the Military Quarters which form a small square surrounded by a high portico with uniform arches.

The Borra design of1749 showned the quarters. Un another printing of C.Scopis del Borgo, on the same design, will represent the Quarter with an cant realized in 1770.
