Today the Royal Academy, designed around a big courtyard, is impossible to imagine: instead of emptiness there is the fullness of the new Teatro Regio, whose curvilinear forms prevent from reading the continuity of the baroque project, well represented in the Theatrum Sabaudiae, which anticipated its construction. The rest of the Castellamonte project is still almost completely standing, and the residual military uses have settled in the rear housing sleeves, originally designed as outbuildings of the Cavallerizza.
In the photo, from Google Earth, a urban part imagined in the famous shot of the Theatrum sabaudiae. You can recognize all the buildings planned in 1600, with the new and bulky theater in the middle of the Academy courtyard.
