Palazzo Barolo Torino

This legend begins with the wedding of Elena Matilde Provana of Druento and the marquis of Castagnole. During the celebrations the main staircase of the building collapsed and the woman's necklace - loan from the Duchess of Savoy - mysteriously disappeared, reappearing the next day in the rubble. The two spouses lived happily until her father, probably because of a monetary problem, decided to dissolve the wedding of Elena Matilde with the marquis and return her to Turin with him. The poor young woman obeyed her father, but she took her own life shortly thereafter. Her ghost is said to be still crying in Via delle Orfane.
