The white marble façade

The façade presents Renaissance characteristics in white Bussoleno marble, surmounted by a tympanum, flanked by two spirals. Its form can be connected to the façade ofSanta Maria Novella in Florence and to other Roman models that Meo del Caprina met having been a really renowned artist during the pontificate of Sixtus IV. The three monumental portals are sculpted with profane grotesque elements, candlesticks and classical trophies, accompanied by angels. In the three keystones that crown the portals, are depicted St. John the Baptist in the center, God the Father on the left and Christ on the right, symbolizing the synthesis between Old and New Testament mediated by the figure of the Precursor.
