The building was built in 1908. Well-known patron of Jewish origin - Moses Schlefer during his life donated huge amount of money for the construction of Jewish buildings of various types. "The ship house" was one of those buildings. Later it was inherited by his daughter but under Soviet authorities it was subjected to State control.
