Of Irene Balzani
Over the centuries, the deconsecrated and then abandoned church soon fell into disrepair. At the turn of the Nineteenth and Twentieth centuries, Alfredo D'Andrade, who considered the church to be one of the oldest monuments in the Canavese area, carried out the first consolidation work to protect the structure. Unfortunately, as early as 1927, the state of neglect and ruin in which the building, now privately owned, had fallen into disrepair was reported. The church remained in this state until 1981, when the Stratta family donated it to the Bollengo Town Council, which commissioned a thorough restoration that lasted almost 10 years.
For chronological consistency, the drawing can be attributed to Cesare Bertea, but the graphite signature of "Capomastro Bernardo Lagna", a mason active in matters relating to the start of restoration work in 1899, can be clearly read.
