A strategic location

The sacred building, located outside the inhabited centre, is situated in a clearing in the region of San Pietro, the place where Pessano, the ancient settlement of Celtic origins, was located. This clearing is located along a stretch of the road which has always been one of the busiest roads since the Middle Ages. The church, in fact, is connected by a dirt path to the branch of the Via Francigena that runs from Ivrea towards Vercelli.

The picture shows the stretch of the Via Francigena that from Lago di Viverone reaches Ivrea, passing through the region of San Pietro, where the church is located, marked in yellow.
