The ancient parterre de loisirs of the belle époque: a tree-lined esplanade for children to play, to stroll, to play music and dance.
On the seventeenth-century walls overlooking the Bisagno, an esplanade was formed, used, among other things, for the game of football and then, from the end of the nineteenth century, for the Sunday pleasures of the bourgeois families. Once the prestige of the walk, the marching band and the outdoor dance decayed, the park was remade several times during the 1900s. It remained the only playground for children in the central area of the city until the opening of the Old Port.
