Riserva naturale Le Vallere Moncalieri

Between 2000 and 2002, the Park Authority of the Po River Park built the first Phenological garden in Piedmont in the city park Le Vallere in Moncalieri, dedicated to Carlo Allioni. The surrounding area is characterised by riparian vegetation and grass, that replaced pastures and cultivations. The Carlo Allioni garden works on improving the monitoring of the phenological data of Northern Italy. The phenological garden covers an area of 5,000 square metres. The research and studies carried out in the Carlo Allioni Phenological Garden in Moncalieri are directed by the Department of Plant Biology of the University of Turin, while the meteorological data (temperatures, rainfalls and atmospheric humidity) are provided by the Italian Meteorological Society. Mainly typical species of continental climate regions were planted in the park, with the addition of some Mediterranean species that grow in the territory surrounding the experimental area. Monitoring is carried out both on arboreal and ad-hoc shrub species, and on spontaneous herbaceous plants, mostly Gramineae.
