The square of the roman city

Since the foundation of Augusta Taurinorum and its urban layout on the model of the Roman fortified city, what is today the Piazza del Comune probably had the central function of the forum. The rectangular shape and the location at the intersection between the cardo and the decumanus testify it. In addition, the road reconstruction work carried out in the square in 1995 revealed a paving of the Roman era, attributable to squares for pedestrian use. In the Turin map of 1680, the most irregular urban forms, prior to the baroque transformation, are highlighted.
