Urban transformation
It was affected by the plan of transformation of the seventeenth century city, which saw the construction of the Palazzo Civico by the ducal architect Francesco Lanfranchi starting from 1659. The urban policy of Carlo Emanuele I, aimed to ennobling the face of the capital of the State of Savoy . The embellishment of the square continued then by Benedetto Alfieri. In 1756, the elegant arcade was created, which deliberately fencing and regularizing the medieval alleys, created by the surrounding houses, while maintaining the small two pedestrian openings on the back of Via Conte Verde.
