The twin statues

In the project of the square, two statues are inserted on the fountains, leaning against the back of the two churches: vaguely neoclassical human figures representing the Po and the Dora river, by Umberto Baglioni. For almost 20 years the fountains have been restored, until 2005.

The photo give the sense of "modernity" of the square, according to the rules of the architecture of the regime that sees Piacentini in the foreground. Not even a detail announces the proximity of the Baroque masterpieces, just a few meters away.
