The square that was not there

The area of the square is the result of the 1935 renovation project, which redesigns the second stretch of Via Roma, digging into the blocks of the two churches a space that had not existed until then and that brake the rhythm of the "classic" blocks of via Roma. Initially called Square of the two churches, it later became Square of the Fountains, and then C.L.N., in contrast to the tragic reputation of the Nazi Gestapo, established here in the years of World War II.

Nel confronto tra le due carte dei primi del 1900 e degli anni '40, si vede il nuovo spazio, inventato sul retro delle chiese.
