By yielding to the pressure of rationalist architects, for the second stretch of Via Roma the urban plan is called into question and becomes the subject of a competition in '33. However, the realization of the new plan was entrusted to the consultancy of Marcello Piacentini who intervened directly on some blocks (the lots to the west of property of INPS, between via Roma piazza S. Carlo, via XX Settembre and via Arcivescovado) and designs the rear fronts of churches on piazza CLN. Piacentini's scheme dictates the classicist-novecentist stylistic features for the façades, imposing a portico with twin columns in gneiss, uniform heights of the buildings with two rearmost floors.
