Go for Vittorio!

The construction of the new square, on the axis with Via Po and the Borgo Nuovo across the river, was approved in 1817 and completed with the Frizzi project in 1825. The square was originally dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele I and then to the victorious battle of Vittorio Veneto during the World War I. A statue of Vittorio Emanuele I is placed in the middle of the Gran Madre staircase and the bridge too is named after him.
