Extending for about 40,000 square metres, Piazza Vittorio Veneto is 320 metres long and 111 meters wide. Piazza Vittorio is considered by citizens the biggest European square, while it holds the title of biggest arcaded square in Europe. Piazza Vittorio was built at the beginning of the 19th century, when the Savoy dynasty returned to Turin after the Napoleonic domination. It was thanks to the demolition of the city walls carried out under Napoleon that the city was able to expand towards the river.
