The second enlargment of the city

Via Po is the main axis of the second extension of the city outside the Roman district, implemented since 1676 at the behest of Duke Carlo Emanuele II of Savoy. The artery, designed by the architect Amedeo di Castellamonte, was built according to the strict building rules of uniformity dictated by needs representative of the capital city, with extraordinary dimensions for the time (over 700 meters in length and 18.50 wide, to which must be added the walkway space of the porches).

In the engraving the street is seen from Piazza Vittorio
