A square bordered more by greenery than buildings, a fundamental node of the development plan of the XIX century of the city towards the mountain.
The result of a project that expertly tuned the levels of 9 streets, a "romantic" square, centered on the equestrian monument of Vittorio Emanuele II and on that of Mazzini, drawn up a few meters away, against the background of dense slopes of large trees. From the square, according to the design of Carlo Barabino of 1825, straight roads depart climbing through the valleys, until then dotted only with convents and sparse villas.
