The Doria family, exploiting the strategic place, transformed the square with a serie of works in the thirteenth century ìto enlarge their center. The plant set up in 1200, still visible today with the square and the noble church surrounded by palaces, all harmonized by bichrome facades.
The image, taken from San Matteo, shows the appearance of the square overlooking the church. It is important to note how the coeval buildings present the typical white and black Genoese colouration.
