A showcase for the Middle Ages

The traces of a fabulous past are at the center of the identity of Piazza Castello. From the first XIX century, every claim to disguise the ancient war aspect of the Palazzo Madama ceases, and indeed the Piazza is given back the sense of a tribute to the war history of the Dukes of Savoy and their ancestors, which has lasted since the Middle Ages. The entire nineteenth-century iconography emphasizes the archetypes of the Middle Ages: from the crenellated towers to the moat with the drawbridge.

Nineteenth-century lithograph entitled "Piazza Castello a Torino" shows the predilection of the representations of the time for the medieval side of the Palace.
