The Christmas novena

The tradition say that organized liturgies of the Christmas novena were born at the Court of Savoy. Since December 1621, in the light of the torches in Piazza Castello, every evening, for nine days, a procession escorts Duke Charles Emmanuel I and his family in the Cathedral where a preacher speaks to the faithful.

Today in a playful version, the novena is renewed in the Advent calendar, the work of Emanuele Luzzati, placed every year between Palazzo Madama and Palazzo Reale.
